Week 1 - Structural Engineering: Structures & Stability
Structures are everywhere, from ancient pyramids to towering skyscrapers! We will learn about the elements of such structures as we build and test freestanding towers. Our awesome Make-N-Take is the Wacky Balancer.
Week 2 - Mechanical Engineering: Mechanical Energy
The topic of this session is the Law of Conservation of Energy as we experiment with some very fun gadgets that transform potential energy to kinetic. Our two, energetic Make-N-Takes are the Windup Walker and Mechanical Grabber.
Week 3 - Mechanical Engineering: Machines & Work
We’ll learn through hands-on experimentation how simple machines help overcome forces such as gravity and friction in order to do work. The featured Make-N-Takes is the Compound Catapult.
Week 4 –Aerospace Engineering: Helicopters & Parachutes
We will discover what affect shape has over the forces of flight as we experiment with snap copters and parachutes. Our Make-N-Take for this session is the Soaring Helicopter.
Week 5 – Electrical Engineering: Basic Circuits
Today is an introduction to circuit building -from battery to switch to light bulb. We will also experiment with insulators and conductors. Today's Make-N-Take is the functional Circuit Board Night Light.
Week 6 - Electrical Engineering: Electric Motors
Today we will continue our exploration of electrical engineering by assembling and testing electromagnets and basic motors. We will then utilize a mini spinning motor and button battery in order to construct our final Make-N-Take, the Electric Bristle Bot.
